|Ruth Mary (Hartman) Ulm 87 of London Mills, IL, passed away Tuesday July 20, 2010, 2:46 am at the Care Center of Abingdon, Abingdon, IL. She was born December 27, 1922 in Muskegon, Michigan the daughter of Spencer and Alice Hartman. She married C. Duane Ulm May 10, 1944 in Mountain Home, Idaho.
She is survived by her husband Duane Ulm of London Mills, IL; one daughter Aura (John) Loser of Louisville, KY; three sons Chuck (Carol) Ulm of Galesburg, IL, Bill ( Debra) Ulm of Raleigh, NC, and Don (Debra) Ulm of Macomb, IL; 9 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, 3 brothers, 2 sisters, 1 nephew and 1 niece.
Ruth worked at the American Seating Company in her early years, making chairs for the WWII soldiers. She was a surgical assistant with Ferguson's Hospital, worked at a Nabisco Cookie Factory, National Brass Company, spraying door knobs, all companies were in Grand Rapids, MI. She moved to London Mills in 1946 and was a homemaker, then later a fork truck driver with Gates Rubber Company in Galesburg, IL. She was a member of the London Mills United Methodist Church, she enjoyed teaching Sunday school and Vacation Bible School. She was in the Salvation Army Band. She was active in the neighborhood Woman's Club, G.I.Y.C. Club and the Good News Club. She never met a stranger plus she had a gift of hospitality.
Funeral service will be Friday July 23, 2010, 10:00 am at the London Mills United Methodist Church. Family will receive friends 6:00-8:00 pm Thursday July 22, 2010 at the London Mills United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the West Midway Cemetery London Mills, IL.
