Chapman, John W.
John W. Chapman, 41, of Galesburg died Saturday July 24, 2010 in Davenport, IA.

He was born September 24, 1968 in Macomb, IL the son of John C. and Rosemary Noel Chapman. He married Jody Smith on November 21, 1992 in Galesburg. She survives.

Also surviving is a son Tyler John Chapman and a daughter Carley Jo Michelle Chapman both at home; his parents John and Rosemary Chapman of Galesburg; two sisters Jennifer (Doug) Grothaus from Covington, GA and Julie (Shawn) Barton of Castle Rock, CO; his grandmother Leah Chapman of Galesburg; his in-laws Carl and Joan Schisler of Galesburg and John and Karen Smith of Gilson, IL and several nephews. He is preceded in death by his grandparents Francis R. and Lorraine Noël and Morris Chapman.

He worked as a manager of Asset Protection for the Target in Peoria, IL for 6 years, but worked for Target for over 13 years. He taught at Costa Catholic School. He was the Wrestling coach for Galesburg High School for 11 years. He also coached wrestling at Churchill and Monmouth Jr High and for Monmouth College. He graduated from Galesburg High School in 1986. He attended Illinois State and graduated from Monmouth College in 1992. In 2006 he was inducted into the Galesburg High School Athletic Hall of Fame and Monmouth College. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church. He enjoyed golfing, fishing and barbequing. He was an avid Steelers and Cub Fan. He truly enjoyed spending time with his family and kids.

Services are scheduled for 10:00 AM Thursday July 29, 2010 in Corpus Christi Catholic Church. The Rev. William Miller will officiate. Visitation is scheduled for 4:00-8:00 PM Wednesday with the family present from 5:00-8:00 PM at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. A Prayer service will be at 8:00 PM Wednesday evening. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the education fund for his children c/o Wells Fargo Bank. Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
