Norris, Alice A.
Alice A. "Angie" Norris, 93, of London Mills, IL, passed away 8:04 am Monday July 26, 2010 at Cottage Hospital, Galesburg, IL. She was born May 17, 1917 on a farm in Knox County, the only daughter of Fred Norval and the fifth daughter of Grace Street Frederick Norval. She married James C. Norris on January 3, 1935 in Farmington, IL he preceded her on March 19, 1982.

Surviving are six children Jim (Judy) Norris of Galena, IL, JoAnn Wilson of Galesburg, IL, Jack (Kim) Norris of London Mills, IL, Jeri Sue Waske of London Mills, IL, Jalene Norris (Ray Warner) of Avon, IL, and Jon Norris (Katherine White) of London Mills, IL; 17 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren and 17 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and 4 sisters.

Alice had a special childhood, working on the farm and attending a one room schoolhouse. She spoke often of helping her dad plow fields, driving a team of horses. Her mother was fearful, but her dad encouraged her to do anything she had the courage to try. She met her husband, Chester when he was a young farmhand. They fell in love and were married. She was first a stay at home mom and then began working at the Blue Bell Factory in Abingdon, IL. She then went to work at the Admiral Plant in Galesburg IL where she retired in 1975. She later owned and operated the Rec. Center in London Mills, IL until 1992, putting her talent for cooking in the public eye. Always strong willed she encouraged all of her children and grandchildren. She will sorely missed by all.

Funeral service will be Thursday July 29, 2010, 1:30 pm at the London Mills United Methodist Church. Family will receive friends on Wednesday July 28, 2010 from 5:00-7:00 pm at the London Mills United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the West Midway Cemetery London Mills, IL. Memorials may be made to the London Mills Fire and Ambulance and or London Mills United Methodist Church. Please sign the guestbook at www.cormanmh.com.
