Douglas Dale Sopher, 49, 581 W. Maple, Oneida, Ill., died at 5:28 p.m. Tuesday, July 27, 2010 at 1047 Knox Road 2350N in Sparta Township.
He was born August 24, 1960 in Galesburg, the son of Dale K. and Estelle Bjorling Sopher. He married Lisa G. Main on May 1, 1982 in Altona, Ill. She survives.
Also surviving is a son, Zac Sopher of Milan, Ill., a daughter, Dana Sopher of Peoria, Ill., his parents, Dale and Estelle Sopher of Oneida, and a sister, Deb (and Joe) Boyke of Harrisburg, Ill.
Doug was a carpenter and partner in D & D Sopher Construction in Oneida since 1986. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Wataga and the Little John Conservation Club. Doug graduated from R.O.V.A. High School in 1978.
Doug was a quiet man of character and honesty. He instilled qualities of good morals, truth, and hard work in his children. He was most proud of his 26 years of sobriety, his children’s accomplishments, his family, and making an honest living. Doug loved to fish, play pitch, gamble, collect antique tools, and build furniture and fine homes. He always strived for perfection from himself. His family, close friends, and craftsmanship are a testimony to the man he was.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Monday, August 2, 2010 in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Rev. Tim Anderson will officiate. Visitation will be 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the chapel.
