Smith, Thomas Robert
Thomas Robert Smith, 72, of 711 State Highway 180 N, Williamsfield, Ill., died 9:55 a.m. Sunday, July 10, 2011 at home.

He was born August 11, 1938 in Galesburg, Ill., the son of Thomas Robert and Josephine M. (Watkins) McCullum.

On October 29, 2000, Thomas married Karol (Flickinger) Smith, which created an extended blessed family for Tom with Karol's son, Derek D. Smith and daughter, Karla May Smith Benson.

Surviving is his wife, Karol of Williamsfield; his brother, Lewis (and Patty) Smith of Galesburg; step sons, Butch Rose, Jr. of Alexis and Derek D. Smith of Wataga; granddaughter, Emma Smith of Oneida; grandsons, Tyler and Logan Benson of Wataga; his mother-in-law, May Flickinger of Williamsfield; and four children from his first marriage, ten additional grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. Thomas was preceded in death by his parents; sister, JoAnn Johnson; daughter, Karla May Smith Benson; granddaughter, Karma May; and grandson, Brian Thomas.

Thomas graduated from Roseville High School. He went on to work at the Abingdon Pottery, Admiral Corporation, and managed the Overhead Door Co. in Galesburg until he started his own business, Doors 4 U in 2003.

He loved to hunt and fish and collect scale model farm equipment, along with being an avid collector of John Deere items. He was extremely proud of his grandchildren and loved spending time with them. He cherished the memories of the many trips that he and Karol took to South Carolina and going to Las Vegas.

Cremation will be accorded. Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, July 16, 2011 in Williamsfield United Methodist Church. Rev. Jennifer Seder and Rev. Gary Bane will officiate. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Memorials may be made to the family. Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.

The family is very appreciative of the care Thomas received from Jennifer Wilson of OSF Hospice.
