Gerding, Phil
Phil Gerding, 92 of Roseville, IL, passed away Wednesday July 27, 2011, 3:22 am at his home. He was born March 19, 1918 in Ottawa, IL the son of Aurther and Pearl Bennett Gerding. He married Nancy Staat in 1945 she preceded him in 1982.

He is survived by three daughters Paula Pieper of Roseville, IL, Betsy Hanley of Springfield, IL, and Dawn (Rick) Beasley of Richland, MO; one son Thomas Gerding of Roseville, IL; 10 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandson and 1 great-great grandchild on the way; one brother Paul Gerding of Chillicothe, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, 1 brother, and 1 sister.

He was born in Ottawa, IL and graduated Spalding High School entering the service after graduation. He served in the US Army during WWII in the South Pacific. He was an Anti aircraft gunner on the island of Saipan. He has been in the newspaper business most of his life and has been with the Roseville Paper since 1947. He was a diehard Cub Fan. He has always been a giver to family and community. He was a member of the Roseville American Legion.

Graveside service will be Monday August 1, 2011, 10:00 am at the Roseville Township Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Roseville Community Center. Military honors will be accorded at the grave by the Lawson Babbitt American Legion Post #614. Cremation rites have been accorded. Please sign the guestbook at www.cormanmh.com.
