|Mary Lou "Marlo" McAllister, 85, of 3131 Simpson St., Evanston, Ill. died 11:47 a.m. Monday, July 18, 2011 at Evanston Hospital.
She was born June 18, 1926 in Minneapolis, Minn. to Webb O. and Margaret King Dinsmore. She married Dale McAllister in 1955.
Surviving are two sons, Mark McAllister of Reno, Nev. and Douglas McAllister of Bethlehem, Pa.; two daughters, Lucy McAllister of San Francisco, Calif. and Julie Shepardson of Oviedo, Fla.; a brother, David Dinsmore of Knoxville, Ill.; and nine grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Ida Mae Swensen and Sally Oien.
Marlo was a free lance writer and editor. She graduated from Knoxville High School, Knoxville, Ill. in 1944. She received her bachelor's degree in English and History from the University of Illinois, Champaign, Ill. in 1949 and her master's degree in Journalism from Syracuse University, Syracuse, N.Y. in 1973. She was a member of Evanston Presbyterian Church. Marlo enjoyed writing, reading and editing. She also took pleasure in listening to music and playing bridge.
Cremation was accorded. Memorial service will be 10 a.m. Friday, September 16, 2011 at the Presbyterian Home in Evanston, Ill. An additional memorial service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, September 17, 2011 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West chapel, Galesburg, Ill. followed by burial of cremated remains in Knoxville Cemetery, Knoxville, Ill.
