Johnson, Gary L.
Gary L. Johnson, 67, Yates City died at 5.22am on Sunday July 3, 2011 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria with his family at his side.

He was born on February 9, 1944 in Galesburg, the son of Catherine and Charles Oyler. He married Donna Carol Harding on July 23, 1965 in London Mills. She survives.

Also surviving are his mother, Catherine Oyler of St. Augustine; four sons, Tony M. (Christine) of Germantown Hills, Terry L. of Mahomet, Thomas C. of Princeville and Todd C. (Jennie) of Brimfield; twelve grandchildren; one brother, Dwight (Jackie) Mannon of Abingdon; one sister Christie Oyler of St. Augustine.

He was preceded in death by his father Charles (Buddy) Oyler.

Gary will be fondly remembered as a devoted husband and a hard working family man who spent time in his early years coaching and watching his sons compete in sports; and in recent years loved to attend the many activities of his grandchildren.

Upon his graduation from Avon High School in 1962, Gary worked in construction and manufacturing jobs in the central Illinois area before joining Caterpillar Inc. in 1978. Gary was a dedicated employee who enjoyed being with his co-workers and was hoping to retire soon. He was a proud member of the UAW Local 974.

Gary recently started attending the United Methodist Church in London Mills with his wife Carol.

Visitation will be held from 5pm to 8pm on Wednesday, July 6 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 11am on Thursday, July 7 at the chapel, with a luncheon to follow at the American Legion in Abingdon. Cremation will be accorded following the funeral service with a private graveside burial at a future date.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that memorials be made to the United Methodist Church in London Mills.
