Ebany, Ralph G.
Ralph G. Ebany, age 82 of Abingdon, died at 10:10 am Monday, July 9, 2012 at his home.

He was born on July 27, 1929 in Galesburg, the son of John and Ruth (Windsor) Ebany. He married Marilyn "Boots" Patterson on January 25, 1952. They later divorced. He then married Karen Chapman Ross on July 27, 1979 in Abingdon.

Ralph is survived by his wife, Karen; three sons, Ralph G. (and Tina) Ebany, Jr., of Rockford, Rick Ebany of Burlington, Iowa, and Ronnie Ebany of Galesburg; five daughters, Rhenae Hasley of Oquawka, Rhonda (and Tony) Day of Abingdon, Rosie Ruse of West Burlington, Iowa, Kem Marsh of Abingdon and Tammy Davis of the Quad Cities; 17 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Pudge Patterson of Canton.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister.

Ralph graduated from Galesburg High School. He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War. He worked for Illinois Power Company for 50 years, retiring in July of 1996. He was a lifetime member of the Harry E. Wiles American Legion Post #381 in Abingdon, a member of 40 & 8, and a member of the VFW Post #2257 in Galesburg. He coached summer baseball teams at all levels when his sons were growing up. His hobbies included golfing and bowling, and he was a stock car driver in his earlier years. He was a lifetime St. Louis Cardinal baseball fan.

As Ralph requested, cremation was accorded. A time for family and friends to celebrate his life will be held from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm Sunday, August 5, 2012 at the Abingdon American Legion Post #381. Private burial of his ashes will be in the Abingdon Cemetery with Military Rites by Abingdon American Legion Post #381. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
