Phillips, Carol S.
Carol S. "Swede" Phillips, age 68, of Maquon, Illinois died on 9:30 A.M. on Tuesday, July 10, 2012 at Marigold Rehab & Health Care Center, Galesburg, Illinois.

She was born on August 2, 1943 in Galesburg, Illinois the daughter of Harold and Margie Strom Burmood. She attended Knoxville Schools, graduating from Knoxville High School in 1961. She married Norman Phillips in 1963, then, later married Thomas Harkless in 1976.

She is survived by a daughter, Toni (Pat) Hohenbery of Maquon, Illinois; two sons, Tuck (Gloria) Phillips and Curt (Becky) Phillips of Maquon, Illinois. Two sisters, Donna (Lynn) Smith of Rushville, Illinois and Dixie (Michael) Swanson of McHenry, Illinois; one brother, Harold (Susan) Burmood of Knoxville, Illinois. Six grandchildren, Nichole L. Hohenbery, Patrick A. Hohenbery II, Tamra M. Phillips, Corbin M. Phillips, Curissa A.L. Phillips, and Corie L. Phillips. One great-granddaughter, Annika Yates. She was preceded in death by her parents.

She owned and operated Swedes Market in Maquon, Illinois; she worked at the Knox County Nursing Home as a CNA for several years; she was a baker at for former Jumer's Continental Inn for several years; worked and cooked for Sue's Tap in Maquon and Elmwood, Illinois; then she was a CNA for Cottage Home Options before retiring.

She was a member of the Maquon United Methodist Church in Maquon, Illinois.
She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

Graveside Memorial Services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, July 14, 2012 at the Knoxville Cemetery, Knoxville, Illinois. Rev. Milton Marquith officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 - 7:00 P.M. on Friday, July 13, 2012 at the Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home in Knoxville, Illinois. Memorials may be made to the Maquon Fire Department or the American Diabetes Association. On-line condolences, sympathy cards and flowers may be sent through www.hurd-hendricksfuneralhome.com
