Stivers, Ruby Fern
Ruby Fern Stivers, age 91 of Abingdon, died at 8:15 pm Wednesday, July 11, 2012 at the Care Center of Abingdon.

She was born on July 7, 1921 near Abingdon, the daughter of George Franklin and Bertha May (Wilmoth) Dupin. She married William F. Stivers on January 6, 1946 in Abingdon. He preceded her in death on July 19, 1988. She was also preceded in death by her parents and one brother, George Dupin.

Ruby is survived by her children, Phillip (and Debbie) Stivers of Jerome, Idaho and Nancy (and Gregory) Tabb of Albuquerque, New Mexico; six grandchildren, Rusty, Sarah, and Shawna all of California and Racheal, Laura, and Clay all of New Mexico; eleven great-grandchildren; one sister, Jean (and Ike) Owen of Abingdon; and seven nieces and nephews and their families.

She had lived in Abingdon most of her life. She graduated from Abingdon High School in 1940. She worked at the Abingdon Blue Bell and later at the cafeteria for the Abingdon Schools. She was a member of the Abingdon United Methodist Church and a member of the Crusaders Sunday School Class. She was also a member and past president of the Harry E. Wiles American Legion Auxiliary, a member and past president of the Knox County Council of American Legion, and member and past chaplain of 8 & 40 Knox County Salon #215. She held many chairmanships in the 15th District of the American Legion Auxiliary and had also served as 3rd Division Secretary. She was also member of the Grandmothers Club and Widows and Widowers Club.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Monday, July 16, 2012 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel. Rev. Anita Munden and Mrs. Eleanor Landon will officiate. Burial will follow in the Abingdon Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10:00 am to 11:00 am Monday at the chapel.
