Wayne Raymond Brodine, born in Galesburg on August 4, 1916 to Pauline and Ernest Brodine, passed from this life on July 12, 2012.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 70 years, Jean Scott Brodine; brothers, Jack Brodine of Knoxville, Ill. and Robert (Mary Ann) Brodine of Allison Park, Penn.; as well as son, Jeffrey (Joan) Brodine of Urbana, Ohio and daughter Lynn Brodine of Rye, Colo. He is also survived by three grandchildren, two nephews and two nieces.
''Brodie'' graduated from Galesburg High School in 1934 and attended Bradley University. He served as a Captain in the Army Air Corps during World War II and flew A-20 bombers and was one of the few to fly the B-32 bomber, known as ''The Dominator''. He served in the Pacific Theatre in New Guinea, the Philippines and Formosa. After release from service in 1946, the family moved to Indiana where Brodie was employed by Standard Oil of Indiana (later Amoco) as Chief Pilot and Manager of the Nine-Ten Corporation, Standard’s corporate aircraft division; he retired in 1977. In 1984, Brodie and Jean moved back to Galesburg, Ill. He was a member of the Soangetaha Country Club and was known as a scratch golfer.
