|James E. "Jim" Gadbury, age 76 of Galesburg, died at 6:22 pm Friday, July 20, 2012 at his home.
He was born on March 10, 1936 in Macomb, the son of Lawrence and Mary (Bainter) Gadbury. He married Carolyn Joann Fishel on September 24, 1967 in Colchester. They later divorced and remained best of friends.
Jim is survived by two daughters, Beth (and Mitch) Durdle of Galesburg, and Chris (and Bob Warden) Gadbury of Galesburg and a special daughter, Suzie Pierce of Galesburg; three grandchildren, Jason L. (and Ellen) Gadbury, John S. Gerstel, and Heather J. Kimler; six great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Amy, his best friend Carolyn and one brother, L. Duane Gadbury.
He graduated from Colchester High School. He was an Army veteran and served in active duty from May 14, 1959 to May 12, 1961. He then became a member of the Army Reserves and was honorably discharged on April 30, 1965. He last worked as a courtesy clerk at the Hy-Vee Food Store on National Boulevard in Galesburg. Prior to that, Jim worked at DC Sales & Service in Abingdon and as the property manager for the Knox County Housing Authority at the Blue Bell Towers in Abingdon. He had also worked as a meat cutter and produce manager at several area grocery stores. His hobbies included fishing, gardening, mushrooming, antiquing and helping people.
Jim's family would like to thank everyone who had a part in taking care of him during his time of illness.
Funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm Friday, July 27, 2012 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel followed by military rites by Harry E. Wiles American Legion Post #381. Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm Thursday at the chapel. Cremation will be accorded after the services.
