Harper, Donald M.
Donald M. Harper, age 79 of Abingdon, died at 9:10 pm Wednesday, July 17, 2013 in Galesburg at the home of his son Don.

He was born on February 5, 1934 in Hermon, the son of Golden Waylan and Lora Geneva (Bramlett) Harper. He married Myra Jane Coats on August 4, 1957 in Abingdon.

Don is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Myra; two sons, Donald (and Roger Schoonover) Harper of Galesburg and Daniel (and Janet) Harper of Wataga; three daughters, Penny (and Mike) Boyd of Abingdon, Lori (and Todd) Lipka of Altona and Rebecca (and Kent) Gray of Wataga; 20 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Mildred Davis of St. Augustine, Charlene Yeager of Galesburg, Ruby Waterman of the state of Montana and Marjorie Sailer of Abingdon. He also had two very special people in his life, Susan Dwyer and Tracy Winheim.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one grandson, Benjamin Dupuy.

He grew up in Hermon and later in Vermont, Illinois. He had lived all of his married life in Abingdon. He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War and served the World Cruise from 1954 to 1955. He was a laborer for Gunther Construction in Galesburg retiring in May of 1992. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Abingdon. He was also a member of the Galesburg Rifle Club and the Harry E. Wiles American Legion Post #381 in Abingdon.

Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 am Monday, July 22, 2013 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Father William Miller I.C. will officiate. Burial with Military Rites by American Legion Post #381 will follow the mass in the Abingdon Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm Sunday at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel with the Praying of the Rosary at 6:00 pm.
