|Charles M. Olson, 85, of Galesburg, Ill. died at 11:54 p.m. Saturday, July 27, 2013 at his home.
He was born on November 28, 1927 in Andover, Ill. to Louis and Olga F. Ecklund Olson. He married Frances J. Baraks on October 19, 1948 in Andover. She preceded him in death on January 16, 2002.
Charles is survived by a son, Michael C. Olson of Galesburg; three daughters, Rosemary E. Hensley of Moline, Ill., Teresa D. (and David) Boettcher of Galesburg, and Ruth F. White of Del City, Okla.; 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, John Olson; and a son-in-law, Marion White.
Charles worked as an operator leverman and yard controlman for the C.B.&Q/Burlington Northern Railroad for 48 years, retiring in 1989. He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1951 to 1953, working in communications. He lived in Andover and graduated from Orion High School. He was a talented woodworker. Charles was a campground host at Delabar and Big River State Parks. He was a member of the Railroad Telegraphers Club.
Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 31, 2013 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Rev. Jim Ecklund officiating. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the chapel. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to the family to establish a memorial fund in his name. Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
