Tony L. Bubon 89, of Alpha, IL, died Tuesday August 3, 2010 at Cottage Hospital in Galesburg. Services are 10 AM Monday at Peterson-Wallin-Knox Funeral Home in Alpha. Burial is in the Oaklawn Cemetery in Galesburg. Visitation is 3-5 PM Sunday at the funeral home where memorials may be left to the Oxford American Legion Post # 1197 or Tri-County Ambulance. He was born June 8, 1921 in Melcher, IA a son of Anton and Vida Mahalovich Bubon. He attended the Alpha Schools and married Virginia Mae Crouch February 14, 1946 in Cambridge, IL. She died October 23, 2007.
He was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII.
Together with his brother he owned and operated Bubon's Service Station in Alpha for 47 years retiring in 1986.
Tony was a member of Oxford American Legion Post #1197, the Croatian Club and the Crescent Lake Association. He was a former Fire Chief for the Oxford Volunteer Fire Department for many years.
He enjoyed fishing, trapping and hunting.
He is survived by 1 daughter, Diane (Chester) Peterson of New Windsor; 1 son, Kent Bubon of Alpha; 5 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, 6 great great grandchildren, 2 sisters; Eva Collingwood of Wilmington, N.C., Josephine Malley of San Jose, CA and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, a great grandchild, 3 brothers and 1 sister. |
