|John T. Keithley, 71, 447 Maple Ave., Galesburg died at 5:05 a.m. Sunday, August 8, 2010 at home.
He was born March 15, 1939 in Blandinsville, Ill., the son of George W. and Martha A. Murphy Keithley. He married Linda L. Matson in Henderson, Nev.
He is survived by his wife, Linda, two sons, David B. (and Lisa) and Richard W. (and Joan), both of Galesburg, six grandchildren, Andy, Kolton, Nate (and Denise), Scott, Nolan, and Kyler, one great grandson, Owen, a brother-in-law, Hal Cisco of Galesburg and three nephews Francis "Sid" Cisco of New York, George Cisco of Kansas City and Roger Cisco of Chicago, Ill. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Cleora Cisco.
He graduated from Galesburg High School in 1957. John served in the United States Army for 17 years, where he served two tours in Vietnam. He was awarded the Vietnam Service Medal, Bronze Star with two oak leaf clusters, Good Conduct Medal, Artillery Battalion, and seven overseas bars.
John was maintenance supervisor for Levi Strauss and Company in Henderson, Nev. for 14 years, retiring in 1999. After returning to Galesburg, he was the sexton of Memorial Park Cemetery, St. Joseph Cemetery, and Hope Cemetery and worked part time as a groundskeeper at Oak Run Golf Course. He enjoyed bowling and golf and made a hole in one at Oak Run Golf Course in 2004. John was a "die hard" Chicago Cubs and Bears Fan.
Cremation will be accorded. A Celebration of Life will be 12 noon to 3:00 p.m. Sunday, August 15, 2010 at Oak Run Golf Course Club House. Memorials may be made to the family. Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
