Johnson, Mildred E.
Mildred E. Johnson, 89, of Geneseo, formerly of Alpha, IL, Rock Island, IL and Melbourne Village, FL died Saturday August 7, 2010 at the Hammond Henry Hospital in Geneseo. Services are 10:30 AM Monday August 16, 2010 at the Grace Lutheran Church in Ophiem, IL. Burial is in the National Cemetery in Rock Island Arsenal. Visitation is 3-6 PM Sunday at Peterson-Wallin-Knox Funeral home in Alpha where memorials may be left to Grace Lutheran Church or the American Heart Association. She was born February 7, 1921 southwest of Ophiem, a daughter of Martin E. and Edith A.V. Peterson Rehn. She attended the Ophiem School until moving to Rock Island where she attended Longfellow Elementary and graduated from Rock Island High School. She married William A. Jones January 20, 1939 in Keokuk, IA. She later married Floyd G. Johnson April 3, 1964 in Alpha, IL. He died in 1977.

During World War II Mildred was employed at the Rock Island Arsenal. She spent the next 17 years raising her family. She accepted a position in Civil Service with the U.S. Army at the Rock Island Arsenal in the early 1960s, and worked at the Arsenal, Corpus Christi Army Depot and Letterkenny Army Depot in Chambersburg, PA as a Quality Assurance Manager. She retired to Melbourne Village, Florida in 1991.

During her retirement, Mildred thoroughly enjoyed discovering her genealogy which included extensive travel throughout the United States and Europe. She was a member of the Henry County Genealogy Society and the Swenson Swedish Immigration Research Center at Augustana College. She enjoyed attending many workshops sponsored by the Swenson Center. She enjoyed being with her family. She was of the Lutheran Faith and was a member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Melbourne Village, FL.

Survivors include her children, Shirley (Otto) Thamasett of Springfield, VA; Barbara (Sanat) Shah of Bethel Park. PA; Kathryn (Paul) Miller of Panora, IA; Marilyn Burklund of Cambridge, IL; Richard (Beth) Jones of Woodbury, MN; 15 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, a sister, Dorothy Neuhaus of Vermillion, S.D., 2 sisters-in-law, Arline Rehn of Collingswood, N.J.; Marie Rehn of Berkeley, CA and several nieces and nephews.

Her parents, husband, 1 grandson; Raj Shah and 2 brothers, Irwin and Victor Rehn preceded her in death.
