Miller, Estelle M.
Estelle M. Miller, 83, of Alpha, Illinois died Saturday August 14, 2010 at the Heartland Health Care Center in Galesburg. Services are 10:00 AM Thursday at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Woodhull. Burial is in the Erie, Illinois Cemetery. Visitation is from 6-8 PM Wednesday at Peterson Wallin Knox Funeral Home in Alpha where memorials may be left to the ELCA World Hunger Fund or the Best Friends Animal Society. She was born January 7, 1927 in Milwaukee, WI, a daughter of August and Irene Deterling Gruhn. She graduated in 1945 from Pulaski High School and was a 1949 graduate of Carthage College majoring in Music. She attended Julliard for a summer session where she studied Voice. In 1968 she received her Masters in Music Education from Western Illinois University.

She married Albert R. Miller in 1950 in Milwaukee, WI. He died in 1988.

Music was Estelle's career. She taught music in Nauvoo, IL. Fernald, Iowa, Rock Island, IL and AlWood Schools where she retired in 1982. She taught privately having students in piano, voice and classical guitar. Music was also Estelle's hobby. She was active in local music groups throughout her life including a local string ensemble in which she played the Cello.

She was a member of the Bethany Lutheran Church in Woodhull where she was the Choir Director for many years, WELCA, Hope Circle and the Alpha Methodist Church Women's group. She was an avid sports fan and a Diehard Cubs fan.

Survivors include a sister, Dorothy Kasel of Milwaukee and several nieces and nephews. Her parents, husband, 6 brothers and 2 sisters preceded her in death.
