|Ervin N. Jacobs, 92, of Alpha, died Saturday, July 31, 2010 at Hammond Henry Hospital Extended Care in Geneseo. Services are 11:00 AM Wednesday August 4, 2010 at Peterson-Wallin-Knox Funeral Home in Alpha. Burial is in the Western Township Cemetery in Orion. Visitation is 9:00AM Wednesday until the time of the service at the funeral home where memorials may be left to the AlWood Food Pantry. On-line condolences can be made at www.petersonwallinknox.com.
Ervin was born April 10, 1918 in Rock Falls, IL a son of John and Mary Nelson Jacobs. After the death of his father he was raised by his mother and step-father, Fred Rahn. He married Ruth Waite Febraury 14, 1957 in Orion. She preceded him in death on May 14, 1990.
He drove a truck for Clarence Swanson Trucking. He worked for Hays Bros. farm in Hooppole in the late 40's and 50's. In 1959, he and his brother-in-law, Carl McClenning purchased Krisdala Farm in Alpha which became one of the leading dairy farms in Henry County. Later he worked at Moorman Feeds in Alpha from which he retired.
During World War II he was in the 610 Tank Destroyer Battalion under General Patton which included the Battle of the Bulge.
Suvivors include 2 sisters-in-law; Barbara Rahn and Dorothy Rahn both of Geneseo. He also has many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, sister; Oneida Hays, and 3 brothers; Raymond, Laurell and Kenneth Rahn.
The family would like to thank Glenn and Carolyn Starman for all the help they gave Ervin throughout the years.
