|James E. "Jim" Cowan, 57, RR Galesburg, died at 10:08 pm Monday, August 16, 2010 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg.
He was born on July 5, 1953 in Galesburg, the son of Gussie and Violet (Pearson) Cowan. He married Susan Ford Pool on July 18, 1981 at Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. She survives.
Jim is also survived by his father, Gussie Cowan of RR Galesburg; one step-daughter, Lori (Craig) Kinley of South Carolina; two step-grandsons; one brother, Terry (and Marsha) Cowan of RR Abingdon; two sisters, Pam (and Michael Cook) Cowan of Galesburg and Linda (and Chuck) Pieper of Gilson; several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother.
He graduated from Abingdon High School in 1971. He farmed in the Abingdon area all his adult life and raised Angus cattle. Jim also was a realtor for Mel Foster Realty in Galesburg. He was an avid deer hunter and fisherman and a past member of the Angus Association.
Cremation was accorded. Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm Friday at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel. Graveside service will be held at 10:00 am Saturday at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens in Galesburg. Mrs. Eleanor Landon will officiate.
