|Marlene Katherine Clifford, 71, of Galesburg passed away at 10:55 p.m. Monday August 23, 2010 at home surrounded by friends and loved ones.
She was born August 20, 1939 in Polo, Ill. the daughter of Lucas and Mary E. Beard Hayenga. She married Richard Harkness. She later married Charles K. Clifford in Knoxville, Ill. on December 6, 1964. He preceded her in death on April 11, 2002.
She is survived by two daughters, Amy (and Brian) Green of Fitchburg, Mass. and Sarah (and Eric) Nelson of Galesburg; four stepchildren, Anne Libby of Monmouth, Ill., Jim (and Betty) Clifford of Altona, Ill., Alice (and Tom) Anhalt of Burlington, Iowa, and Barb (and Bob) McCommons of Knoxville; a brother, Guy (and Ruth) Hayenga of Morrison, Ill.; and four outstanding grandchildren, Jacob Nelson (18), Ashley Nelson (17), Emily Nelson (14), and Courtney Nelson (12). She was preceded in death by her parents and a step son, John Clifford on August 22, 2010, whose wife Kathy survives.
Marlene graduated from Galesburg High School in 1957. She was a member of Covenant Church and Faith Baptist Church in Galesburg. She worked OSF St. Mary Medical Center for 27 years, first in respiratory therapy and then in the business office. Marlene always had a smile for everyone that crossed her path. She was strong in her faith and enjoyed fellowship at Faith Baptist Church and loved to sing.
Celebration of life will be 6:30 p.m. Thursday, August 26, 2010 at Faith Baptist Church, 1247 S. Farnham St. Curt Lipe will officiate. Memorials may be made to Faith Baptist Church. Cremation will be accorded. Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com
