|Charles R. "Bob" Bennett, 94, of 261 N. Linwood Rd., formerly of 1477 Williams, Galesburg, died at 8:35 p.m. Tuesday in Rosewood Care Center.
He was born September 6, 1915 in Galesburg the son of John A. and Effie Mae Lincoln Bennett. He married Darlene V. Moore on March 8, 1963 in Galesburg. She preceded him in death on March 14, 2001.
He is survived by two step daughters, Judith McNabb of Glendale, Ariz. and Jacqueline (Gary) Nesbitt of Galesburg; five grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and two nieces and one nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and one sister.
He served in the Army during World War II.
He was a baker for Howe Anderson and later a custodian for District 205 for 10 years, retiring in 1978. He graduated from Galesburg High School. He was a 66 year member of the Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285. He also was a member of the OAKS. Bob was a devoted husband, he loved to talk to others regarding where he was stationed during his active service. He loved to travel and collect Railroad memorabilia. He enjoyed watching the Cubs and was a distant relative of Abraham Lincoln.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. There will be no visitation. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to the Woodridge Activity Fund. Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
