|Gary L. Downard, 58, of Galesburg, died at 6:11 p.m. Tuesday, August 24, 2010 in the emergency room of Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
He was born August 1, 1952 in Galesburg, the son of Chester W. and Ruby Fern Teel Downard. He married Virginia Cummings Godsil on July 7, 1990 in East Galesburg.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia, two sons, Ronnie and Danny Downard, both of Topeka, Kan., a daughter, Michelle (and Eric) Jones of New Windsor, Ill., three step sons, John A. Godsil of Las Vegas, Nev. and Jason Godsil of Avon, Ill., and Brian Godsil of Galesburg, a step daughter, Jennifer (and Roy) Godsil of Galesburg, eight brothers and sisters, Donna (and Lloyd) Anderson of Galva, Ill., Dorothy (and Max) McMeen of Milan, Ill., Bud (and Barbara) Downard of Cookson, Okla., Mary Ann (and Robert) Brittingham of Galesburg, Grace (and Bill) Bates of Dahinda, Ill., Alice (and Richard) Clark of Galesburg, Cheryl (and Robert) Yerkey of Alexis, Ill., and Randy (and Kathy) Downard of Rio, Ill., two grandsons, two granddaughters, two step grandsons, two step granddaughters, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Gary was a laborer for Butler Manufacturing Company in Galesburg for 32 years. He graduated from Galesburg High School in 1971 and lived his entire life in Galesburg. He was a member of East Galesburg Community Chapel.
Graveside service will be 3 p.m. Friday in Knoxville Cemetery. Rev. Milton Marquith will officiate. Visitation will be 1 to 2:30 p.m. Friday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Memorials may be made to the family.
