Gibbs, Stella May Murphy
Stella May Murphy Gibbs, age 92, of Maquon, Illinois, died on Sunday, August 29, 2010 at 7:14 A.M. at her residence in Maquon, Illinois.

She was born on March 30, 1918 in rural Victoria, Illinois, the daughter of Charley and Pearl Briggs Murphy.

She married Donald C. Gibbs on August 17, 1935 in Galesburg, Illinois.

He preceded her in death on February 13, 2007.

Surviving are:

Son: Dale D. Gibbs of Maquon, Illinois

Daughter: Marilyn Gibbs Carr of Maquon, Illinois

Nine Grandchildren and Eleven Great Grandchildren

Two Great Great Grandchildren

Preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son: Donnie L. Gibbs and one

sister: Gladys Murphy Murdock

She was raised and educated in the Williamsfield and Victoria, Illinois areas.

She farmed with her husband, kept the house clean and running, kept the books for the farm, cooked, cleaned and washed for hired help boarded at their home, milked cows, raised chickens, helped with all the livestock, mowed lawn, cleaned milk house and machines. She enjoyed Saturday night dances and was a good dancer. She could play several musical instruments and sing. She attended Moose Lodge with her husband; field trials, tractor pulls and antique tractor shows with her husband. She was a very hard worker and was very devoted to her husband.

Graveside Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, September 2, 2010 at 10:00 A.M. at the Williamsfield Cemetery in Williamsfield, Illinois.

Rev. David Shreeves officiating.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 1, 2010 from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. at the Hurd Hendricks Funeral Home and Crematory in Knoxville, Illinois.

Memorials may be made to the Mooseheart Child City and Schools in Mooseheart, Illinois.
