Kemp, Mary E.
Mary E. Kemp, 91, of 2245 N. Seminary St., Galesburg, formerly of Burlington, Iowa, died at 1:50 p.m. Thursday, August 11, 2011 in Seminary Manor.

Mary was born February 13, 1920 in Galesburg, Ill., the daughter of Forrest and Etta McDowell Quick. She married Arnold Kemp on September 20, 1941 in Galesburg. He preceded her in death on September 14, 2005.

She is survived by a sister-in-law, Lois Parkinson of Galesburg, several nieces and nephews, Nancy (Layton) Sandall of Galesburg, Susan (Eddie) Kuehn of Naples, Fla, Barbara (Pat) Wood of Galesburg, Kris (Dean) Foster of Downers Grove, Ill., Rob Kemp of Chicago, Ill. and Jon (Ann) Ratcliffe of Virginia Beach Va., great nieces and one great-great nephew. She is preceded in death by her parents and her one sister.

She graduated from Galesburg High School in 1937 and attended Drake University, Des Moines, Iowa. Mary lived a few years in Rock Island, Ill. before moving to Burlington, Iowa for the next 45 years. She moved back to Galesburg in 2006 to be with her family. She and her husband loved to travel. She enjoyed music and was an avid Hawkeye and Cub fan.

Mary was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Burlington, Iowa and attended Trinity Lutheran Church in Galesburg. She was very involved with her church and was a member of the King's Daughters. Mary was also a member of the Music Guild.

Funeral services will 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, August 16, 2011 in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Rev. Dr. Tom Larsen will officiate. Visitation will be 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the chapel. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Galesburg. Memorials may be made to the Hawthorne Inn Resident Care Fund, First United Methodist Church in Burlington, Iowa, Trinity Lutheran Church in Galesburg or the charity of the donor's choice.
