|Viola Marie Baker, age 92 of 1201 W. Northmoor Rd., Peoria, died Wednesday August 24, 2011 at 2:30 a.m. at Washington Christian Village in Washington, IL.
She was born June 29, 1919 in Sumner, Iowa the daughter of Theodore and Bertha Meyer Groepper. She married William E. Baker on October 10, 1945 in Chicago, IL. He preceded her in death July 10, 1987.
Viola is survived by three daughters, Marilyn Baker of Bartonville, IL, Vicki Solada of Grass Valley, CA, and Anita Johnson of Galesburg, IL, three grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers Charles Groepper and Herb Groepper; one sister, Helen Haas.
She graduated from high school in Elk Mound, WI,. and Metropolitan Business College. She was a secretary for American Steel Foundries in Chicago and the Chemistry Department at Bradley University in Peoria, and she was a camera operator at Galesburg Engraving.
She was a member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, the Henderson and Rio Women's Clubs, and the International Graphic Arts Union.
Funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday August 26, 2011 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Chapel in Galesburg with Rev. James Ecklund officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the chapel. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to The ARK in Lacon, IL.
