|Elanor I. Freberg, 90, of Woodridge Living Center, formerly of rural Henderson, IL, died at 10:25 a.m. Sunday, August 28, 2011 in Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
She was born November 6, 1920 in Delong, Ill. the daughter of Arthur and Jessie Halsey Pumfrey. She married V. Allen Freberg on February 3, 1946 in Galesburg. He preceded her in death on December 21, 2003.
She is survived by two sons, John (and Lois) Freberg of rural Oneida, and Dale (and Jan) Freberg of rural Galesburg; a daughter, Janet (and Greg) Shields of Azle, Texas, eight grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; a brother, Herbert Pumfrey of Rolla, Mo.; and a sister, Elsie Holt of Altona. She was preceded in death by her parents, a grandson, two brothers, and a sister.
Eleanor worked in food service for Galesburg School District 205 for 30 years and was a farmwife. She was raised north of Galesburg and graduated from Galesburg High School in 1939. Eleanor was an active member of First Lutheran Church in Galesburg. She was a member of the Knox County Home Extension, Knox County Farm Bureau, Henderson Women's Club, and was a member and past treasurer of the former Henderson Township Fire Department Auxiliary. Eleanor was a 4-H leader for 20 years.
Funeral will be noon Thursday, September 1, 2011 in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Rev. Al Beck will officiate. Visitation will be 10:30 a.m. to noon Thursday at the chapel.
