|Gary C. "Pinger" Johnson, 70 of Abingdon passed away August 19, 2012 at his home. He was born January 16, 1942 in Galesburg, IL the son of Ernie and Jule Turner Johnson. He married Peggy Menely on June 1, 1966 in Charleston, SC.
He is survived by his wife of Abingdon, IL; two daughters Amber (Mike) Sivcobich of St. Louis, and Shana (Chad) Redding of Abingdon, IL; three grandchildren Zachary, Hailey, and Julian; one sister Linda Carlberg of Roseville, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents, and 1 brother.
He was raised around Berwick, IL, graduated from Roseville High School in 1959. He served 20 years in the US Air Force, also serving in Vietnam. He worked for the US Postal Service for 20 years. He loved his Harley motorcycles. He was a member of the Baptist church in Berwick, IL, and was a member of the RSP&E Fire Protection District, serving as District Fire Marshall from 1983-1989. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and his greatest enjoyment was receiving a call from his grandkids to spend the night on Saturdays.
Graveside service will be Saturday August 25, 2012, 11:00 am, at the Roseville Memorial Park Cemetery, Rev. Tom Smith will officaiate, Military Honors will be performed at the grave by Lawson Babitt American Legion Post 614. There will be no visitation and cremation rites have been accorded.
