Cameron, Chester
Chester "Chet" Cameron, age 79 of Abingdon, died at 8:00 am Wednesday, August 22, 2012 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital.

He was born on October 13, 1932 near Ellisville, the son of Albert and Estella (Melvin) Cameron. He married Francis "Fran" J. Tucker on February 15, 1956 in Midwest City, Oklahoma. Fran preceded him in death on January 28, 2009.

Chet is survived by his daughter, Tisha (Mark) Junk of St. Joseph, Michigan; two grandchildren, Cameron and Cailynn Junk; one brother, Frank (Goldie) Cameron of Abingdon; his companion, C. Marlene Johnson of Abingdon; and a stepson, Roger Battershell of Alabama.

Chet was also preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Harold and Albert, and three sisters, Frances, Betty & Hazel.

He graduated from Bushnell High School in 1950. He joined the Army National Guard on July 10, 1950 and later joined the US Air Force where he served until retiring on August 1, 1979. He then moved to Abingdon in 1979 and worked at the ADM Plant in Galesburg for 13 years. He was a life member and firing squad member of the Bushnell VFW Post 1422, member of Harry E. Wiles American Legion Post 381 in Abingdon, member and past master of the Avon Harmony Masonic Lodge, member and past master of the Abingdon Masonic Lodge, member of the Scottish Rites in Pensacola, Florida, and member of the Shrine in Bartonville, Illinois. His hobbies included hunting and spending time with his family and friends.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Sunday, August 26, 2012 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel. Rev. Ron Scarlett and Mrs. Eleanor Landon will officiate. Burial will follow in the Abingdon Cemetery where military rites will be conducted. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm Saturday at the chapel with a Masonic service at 6:00 pm.
