|John Westly Rogers, age 71 of Abingdon, died Saturday, August 3, 2013 at his home.
He was born on July 11, 1942 in Galesburg, the son of Les and Cora (Adams) Rogers. He married Marilyn Mulligan on August 11, 1960 in Galesburg. He later married Susan Sholl in 1986 in Galesburg and they later divorced in 2011.
John is survived by one son, Rob L. (and Mary) Rogers of Abingdon; four grandchildren, Tyson Rogers, Tanner Rogers, Cole Rogers and Amber Rogers; one great-grandchild, Lilly Dean Rogers; two brothers, Orville Rogers of Galesburg and Charles Rogers of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Randy Rogers, one brother, Norman and three sisters, Pauline, Katherine and Joyce.
He grew up in Galesburg and attended Galesburg Schools. He lived most of his life in Abingdon. He worked at Butler Manufacturing in Galesburg for 30 years, retiring in 2002. His hobbies included fishing at the Mississippi River, coon hunting, and traveling the country in his motor home. He treasured the time he spent with his family and grandchildren and his wonderful friends, Joe Walker, Roger Foster, Jerry Purchase and Carl Brown. John also loved to cruise around Abingdon in his jeep.
Cremation will be accorded. The family will celebrate his life by receiving friends from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm Wednesday, August 7, 2013 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel.
