|Harry Lipe, 87, of Galesburg, died at 11:50 p.m. Monday, July 29, 2013 in Galesburg.
He was born September 7, 1925 in Makanda, Ill. the son of Harry W. and Hattie I. (Biggs) Lipe. He married Betty Morris on May 26, 1951 in Beaucoup, Ill.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Betty; a son, Curt (and Vicki) Lipe of Galesburg; a daughter, Susan Ebersohl of Springfield, Ill.; five grandchildren; four brothers, Don, Melvin, Jerry, and Bill; and a sister, Mary. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and two sisters.
Harry was a self-employed carpenter most of his life, until retiring in 1997. He lived for many years in Carbondale, Ill., moving to Galesburg two years ago.
Harry was a member of Faith Baptist Church, Masons, Lions Club, and Rotary Club, where he was named a Paul Harris Fellow. He was an avid fisherman. He had served as a little league baseball coach and umpire.
He served in the United States Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theatre as a machinists mate third class.
Cremation will be accorded. Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 6, 2013 at Faith Baptist Church. There will be no visitation. Entombment will be at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum at 2 p.m. with military rites. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Faith Baptist Church.
