|Kenneth Lee Barton, 87, 1086 E. North St., Galesburg, died at 10:45 PM Tuesday, September 8, 2009 in OSF Saint Mary Medical Center.
He was born June 3, 1922 in Galesburg, the son of Lee S. and Vada A. Calkins Barton. He married Martha Jane Landon on September 29, 1942 in Kahoka, MO.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 67 years, Martha, a daughter, Crystal (and Glenn) Moore of Galesburg, 3 sons, Kenny (and Mary) Barton of Glendale, WI and Garry (and Tammy) Barton and Russell Barton, both of Galesburg, 6 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, 2 brothers, Forrest Barton and Richard Barton, both of Galesburg, and a sister, Annetta Bowton of Abingdon.
Ken worked at the Purington Brickyard in East Galesburg for 26 years. He then worked for the City of Galesburg in the Parks Department until he retired in 2002. During his time with the city, he also worked at Sudzy's Laundromat and was a Little League Umpire for 30 years.
He was a lifelong Galesburg resident. Ken was a member of Ducks Unlimited and enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, and baseball. He was a Chicago Cubs fan.
He served in the United States Army during World War II from 1942 to 1945 and was a former member of Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285.
Funeral will be 11 AM Monday, September 14, 2009 in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. The Rev. Jim Ecklund will officiate. Visitation will be 5 to 7 PM Sunday at the chapel.
