|Evelyn Marie Gilson, 83, 930 W. North St., Galesburg, died at 7:02 AM Saturday, September 12, 2009 in Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
She was born April 29, 1926 in Chicago, the daughter of William and Judith Linnea Johnson Nape. She married Gerald Dean Gilson on June 10, 1944 in Galesburg. He survives.
Also surviving is a son, Michael D. (and Martha) Gilson of Galesburg, a daughter, Ruth A. (and Harold) Bruner of Hockessin, DE, 3 grandchildren, Matthew (Deidra) Gilson, Elizabeth (and Bernard) Merk, and Michael Bruner, 2 great grandchildren, Lily Gilson and Reed Gilson, a sister, Marjorie A. (and Alvin P., Jr.) Johnson of rural Galesburg, and a sister-in-law, Marilyn Nape of Austin, TX. She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Judith Marie Bruner and a brother, John W. Nape.
Evelyn was a secretary at Knox College for 25 years. She graduated from Galesburg High School in 1944. Evelyn was a member of Grace Episcopal Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher and a member of the St. Margaret's Guild. She was a member of the Knox College Women and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan.
Memorial service will be 1 PM Thursday, September 17, 2009 in Trinity Lutheran Church. The Rev. James M. Clement will officiate. Visitation will be 5 to 7 PM Wednesday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Cremation will be accorded following the visitation. Inurnment will be at a later date.
