Sharrar, Arlene V.
Arlene V. Sharar, 87, of 1250 W. Carl Sandburg Dr., Galesburg died at 7:55 PM Monday September 14, 2009 in Rosewood Care Center.

She was born April 27, 1922 in Sperry, IA the daughter of Burton E. and Lena Breuer Vance. She married Frank A. Sharar in Fulton, MO on January 31, 1948. He preceded her in death on August 20, 1990.

Arlene is survived by her two sons, William E. (and Gina) Sharar of Davis, CA and David A. (and Laurie) Sharar of Bloomington, IL, her daughter, Ruth (and Randall) Jurgensen of St. Louis, MO, one brother Floyd Vance of Kansas City, MO, two grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, a daughter, a sister and a brother.

She was a receptionist and salesperson for Healy Real Estate. She retired in 1984. She graduated from high school in Sperry, IA and Weaver Real Estate School. Arlene was a member of the Lombard Home Extension, the Westminister Circle and the Sewing Circle. She was a long-term member of the First Presbyterian Church. She greatly enjoyed arts and crafts, cooking, gardening, and homemaking. Arlene's life was characterized by hard work, service to others, resiliency during difficult times, nurturing her creative abilities, and applying Christian values on a daily basis. She was immensely grateful for the support and visits she regularly received while in Rosewood from her many friends, neighbors, and fellow Presbyterian Church members. The family appreciates the care and compassion provided by Rosewood over the past several years.

Memorial Service will be 11:30 AM, Saturday September 26, 2009 at the First Presbyterian Church. A display of some of Arlene's crafts, a photo exhibit, and opportunity to greet her family will take place at 10:30 prior to the service. The Rev. David Parker will officiate. Lunch will be provided by the Church following the service. Cremation will be accorded. Burial will be in Kossuth Cemetery in Mediapolis, IA.
