Dwyer, William Edward
William Edward Dwyer, 80, of Abingdon died at 2:02 am Tuesday, September 7, 2010 at OSF St Mary Medical Center in Galesburg.

He was born on September 28, 1929 in Plymouth, Ill. to Edward and Viola (Watts) Dwyer. He married Dorla Jean Schisler on June 21, 1952 in Abingdon. She preceded him in death on October 12, 2009.

He is survived by his children, Sheila (and Hugh) Forbes of Media, Lawrence (and Debra) Dwyer of Abingdon, Susan Dwyer of Abingdon and Andrew (and Marsha) Dwyer of Wyoming, Ill.; 8 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by his parents and his son-in-law, Paul Shumard.

He grew up in St. Augustine, where he attended grade school. He graduated from Avon High School. He worked at the former Brass Factory in Abingdon for 27 years and also worked at the former K of G Grocery Store in Abingdon at the same time. He then worked for Holts Plumbing in Galesburg and later at Bushnell Tank Company in Bushnell. He retired in 1984. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Abingdon. He was a past member of the Galesburg Eagles Lodge and the Abingdon Jaycees. His hobbies included woodworking, especially building birdhouses, working on his farmstead, fishing and hunting.

Funeral mass will be at 10:00 am Friday, September 10, 2010 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Abingdon. Father William Miller I.C. will officiate. Burial will follow in the Abingdon Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm Thursday at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel with the praying of the Rosary at 7:30 pm.
