|MIRIAM EDITH HAMRICK NELSON, age 85, of Oneida, Illinois died on Friday, September 10, 2010 at 8:19 A.M at Seminary Manor in Galesburg, Illinois. She was born November 15, 1924 in rural Princeton, Illinois, the oldest child of Daniel and Frances Calkins Hamrick. She married Ray Nelson of Oneida, Illinois on August 25, 1951 in Wyanet, Illinois at the Congregational Bible Church. He preceded her in death on January 28, 1978.

Many Nieces and Nephews called her Aunt Miriam
Preceded in death by her parents.
Miriam graduated from Wyanet High School in 1942 and went on to continue her education at Western Illinois State Teacher's College. She received her bachelor's degree in Home Economics and Biology in 1946 and started teaching that fall at the former Altona High School. Her teaching career continued for 5 years taking her into the ROVA consolidation and in 1951 became a full time farm wife.
She and Ray raised their family on the farm east of Oneida until his untimely death in 1978 when she assumed his responsibility of being father as well as mother to her young family. She continued to be an active part in the farm until recent years when declining health caused her to finally slow down a little. This was her home until the last few days.
Miriam was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Altona, Illinois where she taught Sunday School for many years as well as being involved in many groups within the church. She was also a member of the Knox County Home & Community Education Association. Her family and faith were her cherished possessions, for that was what she dedicated her life to.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, September 14, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Altona, Illinois. Rev. Tim Anderson officiating. Visitation will be held on Monday, September 13, 2010 from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. at the Hurd Hendricks Funeral Home in Oneida, Illinois. Burial in Oneida Cemetery in Oneida, Illinois. Memorials may be made to the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Altona, Illinois or the Charity of the Donor's Choice.
