|Charles L. VanBeveran, 67, 120 W. First St., East Galesburg, died at 10:25 a.m. Monday, September 13, 2010 in OSF St. Mary Medical Center.
He was born October 2, 1942 in Moline, IL, the son of Charles and Beaulah A. Rusk VanBeveran. He married Mary Mackey on February 8, 1964 in East Galesburg. She survives.
Also surviving are three sons, C.J. (and Chrissy) VanBeveran of East Galesburg and Tim VanBeveran and Todd VanBeveran, both of Elmwood, IL, five grandchildren, two brothers, Rick (and Jeanie) VanBeveran of California and Gary (and Carol) VanBeveran of Benton, Ark., and a sister, Kay (and Charles) Benson of rural Knoxville, I;. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Mack VanBeveran and Jackie Frye.
Chuck was a driver and mechanic for Knoxville Transport for over 20 years. He graduated from Knoxville High School and was a member of the Knox County Sheriff's Posse.
He served in the United States Navy for four years aboard the USS Enterprise CVA (N) 65. He was a member of the first crew of the newest ship of the mighty United States fleet and placed in commission the first nuclear powered aircraft carrier.
Chuck was a fan of all sorts of racing, including, NASCAR, drag racing, motocross racing, and dirt track racing. He also enjoyed the outdoors, raccoon hunting, cat fishing, and quarter horses.
Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, September 16, 2010 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Cremation will be accorded following the visitation with a celebration of life held at a later date. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or American Heart Association.
