|Louise Gummerson, 93, of Galesburg, died at 11:20 p.m. Wednesday, September 15, 2010 in Heartland Health Care Center.
She was born November 22, 1916 in Galesburg, the daughter of Carl and Hazel Wright Bergwall. She married Ambrose W. "Tiny" Gummerson on January 18, 1942 in Galesburg. He preceded her in death on March 17, 1967.
She is survived by two sons, Don (and Mary) Gummerson of Galesburg and James (and Suncha) Gummerson of Omaha, Neb., a daughter-in-law, Shelley Gummerson of Weems, Va., six grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, a brother, Edward (and Ruth) Bergwall of Columbia, Calif., and a sister, Helen Treadway of Kansas City, Kan. She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Dennis Gummerson and two sisters, Lorraine Pedigo and Dorothy Frye.
Louise worked in the Knox County Recorder's Office and then at the Illinois Department of Motor Vehicles. Later, she was on the original board of directors and worked for New Horizons before retiring. She graduated from Galesburg High School and was a member of First Lutheran Church. Louise enjoyed painting with watercolors and was a "Grandbuddy" for the Silas Willard School reading program at The Kensington.
Visitation will be 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday, September 18, 2010 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Funeral will follow at 2 p.m. officiated by Rev. Paul Johnson. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the National Inclusion Project, which benefits children with disabilities, or a charity of the donor's choice.
