|Gene L. Dunlap, 87, of Alpha, IL, died Friday September 17, 2010 at Seminary Manor in Galesburg. Services are 2:00 PM Tuesday at Peterson Wallin Knox Funeral Home in Alpha. Burial is in the Hopewell cemetery, rural New Windsor where Military Rites will be conducted by the George Norris American Legion Post #484 of which he was a member. Visitation is one hour prior to services at the funeral home where memorials may be left to the Tri-County Ambulance Service. Online condolences can be made at www.petersonwallinknox.com.
He was born August 6, 1923 in Taylor Ridge, IL, a son of Adolph and Verna Taylor Dunlap. He attended the Taylor Ridge and New Windsor Schools. On June 12, 1948 he was united in marriage to Gertrude "Trudy" Spivey in New Windsor. She died January 14, 2003.
Gene was a U.S. Navy Veteran of WW 2 serving as a machinist mate first Class aboard several ships including the USS Monticello. After the war he farmed in the New Windsor area and was Richland Grove Twsp Road Commissioner for many years.
He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed deer hunting.
Survivors include many nieces and nephews and he was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and 3 brothers.
