Sebree, Edna Mae
Edna Mae Sebree, 98, a resident of the Marigold Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center in Galesburg, formerly of Abingdon, died at 12:30 pm Monday, September 20, 2010 at the Marigold.

She was born on January 12, 1912 in Canton, the daughter of Frederick and Dorothy (Thompson) Mathews. She married Clifton E. "Shorty" Sebree on November 25, 1939 in Kahoka, Missouri. He preceded her in death on March 8, 2000. She was also preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, one brother, her grandson Mark Wyffels and an infant grandson.

She is survived by her daughters and spouses, Becky and Joe Wyffels of Geneseo, Erma and Dick Derry of Galesburg, Sara and Jim Miner of Abingdon and Carol and Kenny Jennings of Avon; her grandchildren, Tim Wade of Abingdon, Trisha Wade and friend Charity Bellinger and Charity's son Nicolus of Galva, Donni Miner of Galesburg, Jami Jo Dugan of Abingdon, Brian and Amanda Jennings of Knoxville; her great- grandchildren, Lindsey and Matt Trickey of Colona, Kirk and Laura Wyffels of Colona, Curtis Wyffels of East Peoria, Reese Billiet of East Moline, Travis Wade of Abingdon, Dustin Miner serving in the US Marine Corps in Okinawa, Stephanie Miner of Abingdon, Darbi Dugan of Abingdon and Riley Jennings of Knoxville; her great-great-grandchildren, Kai and Blake Trickey and one expected in February all of Colona; her brother, Merle Mathews of Farmington; her sister-in-law, Juanita Alexander of Keosauqua, Iowa.

She graduated from Francisco, Indiana High School in 1930 and from Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana in 1935. She was employed at the Bluebell of Canton and Abingdon before her children were born and later worked for 20 years with the Abingdon School District, retiring in 1979. She was a member of the Christian Church in Abingdon, past member of the Abingdon Fire Department Auxiliary, a former Girl Scout Leader and a past volunteer at the Care Center of Abingdon.
She was an accomplished seamstress, wonderful cook and pie baker, musician playing the violin, guitar, piano and organ. She was also very accomplished in crocheting. She and Shorty enjoyed and followed their children's, grandchildrens and great-grandchildren's activities. They also spent many years traveling around the United States in their camper.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Friday, September 24, 2010 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel. Mrs. Eleanor Landon will officiate. Burial will follow in the Abingdon Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm Thursday at the chapel.

Memorials may be made to the Abingdon Fire Department, Marigold Special Alzheimer Unit, and Beacon of Hope Hospice.
