Browning, Nancy
Nancy Leanne (Lockard) Browning, 66, Galesburg, died at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday, September 21, 2010 at home.

She was born September 4, 1944 in Canton, Ill. She was the daughter of H. Wayne and Shirley (Williams) Lockard. She was raised in Canton and graduated from Canton High School. She then attended Western Illinois University, where she was a member of Sigma Kappa Sorority, and graduated with a teaching degree. She taught first grade in Prairie City, Ill. She married John (Jack) Browning on August 21, 1966 and had two daughters, Susan (and Dennis) Stieren and Joanne (and Alec) Riss. Her greatest joy was being a mom and later being a grandmother (Nana) to her five grandchildren, Nathan (11), Benjamin (9), and Anna (7) Stieren and Connor (9) and Caroline (9) Riss.

Nancy was an active member of First United Methodist Church, where she was the treasurer for 25 years and also in the handbell choir. Nancy enjoyed sewing and quilting, and was a member of Piece Makers Quilt Guild, Love Covers Quilt Group, and the Mississippi Valley Quilt Guild. She also enjoyed knitting, reading, cooking, and yoga. She was active in the HO Chapter of P.E.O., where she was past president. She was also a member of the Knox County Home Extension Association.

Nancy is survived by her husband, mother, and brother, David, as well as her children, grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Cremation will be accorded. Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, September 25, 2010 in the First United Methodist Church. Rev. Melva England and Rev. Marilyn Anell will officiate. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Inurnment will be later at the Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church (10% going to Love Covers Quilt Group) or Sigma Kappa Foundation. Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
