Thorne, Willard R.
Willard R. Thorne, age 88, of Victoria, Illinois, died on Thursday, September 23, 2010 at 3:00 P.M. at his residence in Victoria, Illinois.

He was born on May 6, 1922 in Victoria, Illinois, the son of Charles and Gladys Goodspeed Thorne. He married Marjorie Haist on May 30, 1943 in Galesburg, Illinois. She survives of Victoria, Illinois.
Also surviving are two sons, Duane (Becky) Thorne of Victoria, Illinois and Roger (Teresa) Thorne of Toulon, Illinois; one daughter, Karen Witte of Bagley, Wisconsin; six grandchildren, Chad Musselman, Brian (Heather) Musselman, Nellie Thorne, Kerrie Thorne, Tracy Thorne and Stephanie Davis; ten great grandchildren; five step grandchildren and two step great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother: Robert and one son: Paul Robert Thorne.

He was raised and educated in Victoria, Illinois graduating from the Victoria High School in 1941. He worked as a coal miner, first working at the Little John Coal Company in Victoria, Illinois until it closed in 1959 and then for the ASARCO Coal Company in Wyoming, Illinois until he retired in 1979. He was a member of the United Mine Workers of America and a charter member of the Little John Conservation Club. He was a devoted husband to his wife of 67 years, father and grandfather. He was an avid fisherman and loved woodworking, bowling, dancing with his wife, camping, his family and friends.

Cremation Rites will be accorded.

Family requests Private Graveside Services to be held at Victoria Cemetery in Victoria, Illinois. Deacon Jim Haneghan officiating. Fellowship will be held on Sunday, September 26, 2010 at the Charles A. Warrensford American Legion Post # 726 of Victoria, Illinois beginning at 3:00 P.M. Memorials may be made to the Family. Hurd Hendricks Funeral Homes and Crematory in Oneida, Illinois in charge of arrangements.
