|Mr. Robert L. Higgins, 89, of Galesburg, went to join the Lord at 1:20 a.m. Monday August 23, 2010 in St. Mary Hospital in Duluth, Minn.
He was born July 5, 1921 in Alexis, Ill. the son of Harry G. and Elsie Higgins. He served his country in World War II, where he met his future wives. He married Eileen in England in 1960. He later married Peggy Darville in Galesburg on May 15, 1974.
He is survived by a sister, Maribelle Nordberg of Duluth, Minn. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Elsie, his wives, Eileen and Peggy, five sisters, Ruth, Ada, Vivian, Butch, and Marge, and two brothers, Junior and Kike. He will be missed by many nieces and nephews from California, Arizona, Texas, Kansas, Michigan, Indiana, and Minnesota.
Bob enlisted with the Army at the age of 17 and is a very proud World War II veteran. He retired in 1974 from the Galesburg Police Department after 20 years of service. He was a member of the Illinois Policeman's Association, NRA Live member, lifetime member of the VFW and a member of the First Baptist Church.
Graveside services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Tuesday September 7, 2010 in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens with Military Rites by Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285. The Rev. Daniel Siems will officiate. There will be no visitation. The family would like to make a special Thank You to Charles Cooley ii for his assistance and care.
