|Lena Marie Watkins, age 84, of 847 Knox Highway 39, died at 3:09 am Wednesday, September 5, 2012 at the Care Center of Abingdon.
She was born on April 21, 1928, the daughter of Galen and Marie (Crowell) Mitchell. She married Junier B. "Fuzz" Watkins on November 1, 1947 in Fairview. They lived and farmed in the Hermon and London Mills areas all of their married life.
Lena is survived by one son, Sammie (and Rhonda) Watkins of London Mills; four grandchildren, Robert (and Kate) Watkins, Tracie (and Jared) Yocum, Steve (and Tiffany) Watkins, and Jennie (and Zack Brown) Watkins; four great-grandsons, Brandon Dean Watkins, Justin Scott Yocum, Joseph Warren Yocum and Sammie Brown Watkins. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Junier preceded her in death on August 8, 2011. She was also preceded in death by an infant son, Jeffery Brown Watkins, her parents, three brothers, William, Everett and Willard, one sister, Helen Lindstrom, and one daughter-in-law, Susan J. (Lewis) Watkins.
Lena graduated from Fairview High School. She was an active member of the London Mills and Fairview Legion Auxiliaries. She was a member of the Knox County Republican Women and had served as an election judge for Chestnut Township. She attended the Fairview Reformed Church and worked for the minister. While raising her family, she also worked at Gale Products in Galesburg.
Lena and Junier made a good life for their family by farming. She loved being a wife, mother and grandmother. Many of her summers were filled with taking her grandkids to the field to watch the tractors at work.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Friday, September 7, 2012 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel. Mrs. Eleanor Landon will officiate. Burial will follow in the Abingdon Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10:00 am to 11:00 am Friday at the chapel.
