|Forrest W. McCaw, 95, of Mesa, AZ, formerly of Rio, Alpha, and Galesburg, IL. passed away peacefully Saturday, September 1, 2012 in Mesa. Memorial services will be 10:30 AM Saturday, September 15, 2012 at Peterson Wallin Knox Funeral Home in Alpha. Private burial is in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery, rural Galesburg. Friends may greet the family one hour prior to services and are invited to a luncheon at the Alpha Baptist Church in Alpha, IL following the service. He was born November 14, 1916 in Viola, IL to Ray and Ethel Kennedy McCaw. He graduated from Viola High School and attended Brown's Business College. He married Betty Weir of Rio in 1940 and together they had two children, Bonnie and Jim. He later married Lorrayne Patterson in 1976.
Forrest was employed by the Railroad Retirement Board in Washington D.C., Chicago and Rock Island. For a few years, he sold groceries from a van in rural Knox and Henry County and retired from Maytag in Galesburg after 30 years of employment. In the 1950's Forrest was the Alpha Village Clerk and for over 40 years he owned and operated a Christmas Tree Farm on Route 150 near Rio, IL.
"Mac" was a coin collector, a member of the Rio Masonic Lodge, the Alpha Methodist Church, the OAKS, was an avid fisherman and for the past 10 years resided at Seminary Estates in Galesburg.
Survivors include a daughter Bonnie (Eli) Carrera of Milwaukee, WI, a son, James (Diane)McCaw of Benson, AZ, 2 granddaughters, Paula (TJ) Kindt of Riverview, FL, Beth Willett of Mesa, AZ, a sister Marian Sanford of both Peosta, IA and El Paso, TX, a cousin John (Maxine) McCaw of Des Moines, IA, and several nieces and nephews.
His parents, wife, Lorrayne, granddaughter and 5 brothers, Fred, J.C., Clair, Lewis and Melvin McCaw preceded him in death.
