|Ruth M. Burns, 90, of Galesburg, formerly of Altona, died at 9:41 p.m. Tuesday, September 25, 2012 in Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
She was born December 9, 1921 in Haw Creek Township the daughter of Glenn and Amy Bloomfield Richardson. She married Arol H. Burns on March 1, 1942. He preceded her in death on February 29, 1992.
Ruth is survived by two sons, Donald A. (and Nancy) Burns of Galesburg and Richard D. (and Dottie) Burns of Overland Park, Kan.; a daughter, Janice M. (and David) Hawkinson of Galesburg; six grandchildren, Angie (and Matt) Ward, Lisa (and Chad) Braden, Kate (and Brian Sterwald) Hawkinson, Jeff Burns, Mason Burns, and Annie Burns; seven great grandchildren, Nicholas, Grace, and Genavieve Braden and Luke, Greg, Jack, and Logan Ward; a sister, Ruby Smith of Monmouth; two nieces, Bonnie (and Dennis) Smith Skripps and Karen (and Tammy) Lufkin; and a great niece, Kirsten Bruns. She was preceded in death by a sister, Betty in 1942.
Ruth was an accountant, working for Raymond Wehrmeister and later Wehrmeister, Kelly, and Cox for many years before retiring in 1982. She also owned and operated her own income tax service until 2000.
She graduated from Alpha High School in 1939 and Brown's Business College in 1941. Ruth was a former member of the United Church of Altona and presently was a member of the Covenant Church.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday, September 29, 2012 in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Rev. Thomas Ek and Rev. Stanley Rapp will officiate. Burial will be in Oneida Cemetery.
