Beckmann, Phyllis V.
Phyllis V. Beckmann, age 79 of Galesburg, Illinois died at 7:40 P.M. on Wednesday, September 26, 2012 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital, Galesburg, Illinois.

Phyllis was born on December 14, 1932 in Knox County, Illinois; daughter of Gardie I. and Vada G. Willison Cherrington. She was raised and educated in Knox County, Illinois graduating from Knoxville High School in 1950. She then served two years in the US Navy as an administrative assistant to an admiral. During her time in the service Phyllis married Ralph D. Beckmann on September 19, 1953 in Knox County, Illinois. He preceded her in death on December 24, 1998.

Surviving are two daughters: Cynthia J. Andrews of Galesburg, Illinois and Patricia A. (April Davis) Kinne of Oskaloosa, Iowa. One son: Tom (Joyce) Beckmann of Metairie, Louisiana. Three grandchildren: Christopher S., Patrick G., and Lara J. Kinne. Two sisters: Ethel L. Cherrington of Galesburg, Illinois and Madge G. Winchel of Inchelium, Washington; one brother: William J. Cherrington of San Francisco, California. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, three brothers, one son-in-law, George Andrews and one granddaughter, Jennifer N. Kinne.

Phyllis worked at Maytag in Galesburg, Illinois for 30 years, retiring as an inspector. She was a member of First Christian Church of Galesburg, Illinois. She was active in her church by serving as a deacon and a member of Disciple Women. She volunteered in the gift shop at Cottage Hospital and was a member in the D.A.R

Memorial Services will be held on Monday, October 1, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. at the First Christian Church in Galesburg, Illinois. Revs. Greg and Martha-Jean Fitch officiating. A celebration of her life will be held at the Galesburg American Legion immediately following the service. Memorials may be made to First Christian Church, Galesburg, Illinois. Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Homes & Crematory in Knoxville, Illinois is in charge of services. On-line condolences or sympathy cards may be sent through www.hurd-hendricksfuneralhome.com.
