Kimbell, Raymond G., III
Raymond G. Kimbell, III, 70, of Galesburg, died at 10:38 p.m. Tuesday, September 17, 2013 in Galesburg Cottage Hospital.

He was born November 3, 1942 in Oak Park, Ill. the son of Raymond G. and Sue Sturla Kimbell II. He married Agnes Richardson on June 17, 1967 in Urbanna, Va.

He is survived by his wife, Agnes; two sons, Joe (and Holly) Kimbell of St. Paul, Minn. and John (and Sarah) Kimbell of Louisville, Ky.; three daughters, Mary Kimbell of Phoenix, Ariz., Bonnie (and Curt) Chester of Madison, Wis., and Fran (and Brandon) Kriesch of Malta, Ill.; 11 grandchildren, Elise Chester, Owen Chester, Christiana Kimbell, Tova Kimbell, Elias Kimbell, Anna Kimbell, Rachel Kimbell, Trevor Kimbell, Ryan Kimbell, Julia Kimbell, and Nathan Kriesch; and one brother, Steve (and Debbie) Kimbell of Tunbridge, Vt. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Ray was a practicing attorney from 1968 to 2008. During that time, he served as Assistant State's Attorney from 1973 to 1982 and State's Attorney from 1982 to 1996. He returned to private practice in 1996 before retiring in 2008. Ray was raised in Wheaton, Ill., where he graduated from Wheaton High School in 1960. He graduated from Northwestern University in 1964 and from Georgetown Law School in 1967. He had lived in Galesburg since 1973. Ray was a member of Bethel Baptist Church.

Ray was active in the community, including helping to develop and volunteering in the junior high soccer program for over 25 years.

He served in the United States Navy from 1967 to 1970, serving in the Panama Canal Zone.

Funeral will be 10 a.m. Monday, September 23, 2013 at Bethel Baptist Church. Rev. Lee Johnson will officiate. Visitation will be 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, September 22, 2013 at the Bethel Baptist Church. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Bethel Baptist Church or Galesburg Rescue Mission. Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
