Buckman, James Ray
James Ray Buckman, 66, of Maquon, Illinois died Monday, September 23, 2013 at 11:50 A.M. at his home.

He was born February 7, 1947 in Galesburg, Illinois the beloved son of Clifford J. and F. Louise Swanson Buckman. He was married to Rita J. OBrien for forty years.

James is survived by two daughters: Dee Dee (David) Boyer of Maquon, Illinois and Tiffany Buckman of Knoxville, Illinois; one son: Jarod (Kari) Buckman of Maquon, Illinois and six grandchildren. He is also survived by his mother, one sister: Joyce (Danny) Richard of Maquon, Illinois and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father.

He was a lifetime farmer. He graduated from Valley High School, Fairview, Illinois in 1965. He was a member of the United States Army Reserves.

He was a member of the Roy Miller American Legion Post #644 of Fairview, Illinois and the Farmington Moose Lodge #1571. He was a 44 year member of the Maquon Fire Protection District and served several of those years as an EMT. He served on the Spoon River Valley CUSD #4 Board of Education from 1973 - 1987. He attended the Maquon United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Fraternal Association of River Team Sportsman.

He enjoyed the outdoors; hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, and riding his ATV. He loved social gatherings, playing Texas Hold 'em Poker and hanging out with his best friend, Wilbur Dean Gooding. He loved attending his grandchildrens activities and watching them grow up.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 26, 2013 from 4:00 - 7:00 P.M. at the Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home in Knoxville, Illinois. Funeral services will be held Friday, September 27, 2013 at 10 A.M. at the Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home in Knoxville, Illinois. Military rites will be conducted by the Roy Miller American Legion Post #644 of Fairview, Illinois at his home in Maquon, Illinois and a fellowship will be held at the Maquon United Methodist Church following the funeral service. Memorial donations may be made to Maquon Fire Protection District or St. Jude's. Online condolences and sympathy cards can be made at www.hurd-hendricksfuneralhome.com
